Zero tailpipe emissions. Full HiLux toughness. Arriving May 2026.
If you have ever driven a HiLux up to the hills for work, loaded one up for a weekend away, or simply relied on one to get the job done every single day, this news is for you.
Toyota has confirmed the HiLux BEV is arriving in Australia in May 2026. That means the ute that has earned the trust of tradies, farmers, and families across this country is about to go fully electric, without giving up any of the capability that made it famous.
Priced from $74,990 plus on-road costs*, the HiLux BEV will be offered as a double cab with dual-motor AWD across two grades: SR and SR5.
Under the floor sits a 59.2kWh lithium-ion battery paired with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The front motor produces 82kW and 206Nm, the rear motor delivers 129kW and 269Nm, and the combined system output is 144kW, with torque distributed between both axles to give you confident grip across all conditions.
Pick-up variants are rated at 315km of driving range on the NEDC cycle3. Toyota did not just test this on a smooth track. Real-world trials were conducted on Australian mine sites in temperatures close to 50 degrees. That tells you something about how seriously Toyota took building this thing for conditions we actually drive in.

Breaked Towing Capacity
The HiLux BEV supports 150kW DC fast charging, which takes the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 30 minutes. If you would rather charge overnight at home or top up at work, 10kW three-phase AC charging takes the battery from 10 to 100 per cent in around 6.5 hours.
For most Hills residents doing local runs, worksites, and weekend jobs, daily charging overnight will be more than enough.
This is not an EV that has had a towbar bolted on as an afterthought. The HiLux BEV features a purpose-built suspension system, with frame reinforcements, a beefed-up MacPherson strut front setup, and a De Dion rear leaf spring arrangement that accommodates the rear motor while keeping the live axle configuration the HiLux has always used.
Toyota's Multi-Terrain Select system gives you six traction modes for low-grip conditions, and ventilated disc brakes work alongside regenerative braking to give you strong stopping performance while recouping energy at the same time. Braked towing capacity is 2,000kg across the full range 5.
Both grades are well-equipped out of the box.
The SR includes LED headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, smart entry and start, a 1,500W inverter in the centre console (handy on the worksite), and a 12.3-inch touchscreen paired with a 12.3-inch multi-information display. Wireless Apple CarPlay7 and Android Auto8, embedded satellite navigation6, DAB+ digital radio9, and USB-C ports front and rear are all standard.
The SR5 adds leather-accented upholstery, heated front seats, a powered driver's seat with two-way lumbar support, a heated steering wheel, LED foglamps and tail-lights, an eight-speaker audio system, and a wireless phone charger10.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the range, covering autonomous emergency braking, dynamic radar cruise control, lane trace assist, rear cross-traffic alert, road sign assist, and automatic high beam11. Pick-up variants also get a panoramic view monitor and front and rear parking sensors.
