Toyota Australia has reopened orders for the LandCruiser 70 Series automatic range, giving customers the chance to order the 76 Series wagon, 78 Series Troopcarrier and 79 Series tray back into their line-up. For Perth Hills customers who rely on the 70 Series for farm work, trade, or getting to the places a regular vehicle cannot, this is welcome news.
Alongside the resumption of orders, the workhorse range has been updated with a 20-litre AdBlue tank, helping the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine comply with Euro VI emissions regulations. Here is what has changed, and what has stayed exactly the same.
All versions of the LandCruiser 70 Series offered with the six-speed automatic transmission are now available to order, covering the 76 Series wagon, 78 Series Troopcarrier and 79 Series tray body styles.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations John Pappas said the resumption of production would help meet the needs of customers across Australia, particularly those in rural and regional areas who rely on the 70 Series. Following a pause introduced in 2025 to manage customer expectations around supply, Mr Pappas confirmed that "order books are now back open."
The five-speed manual transmission offered on the 78 Series, 79 Series double-cab chassis, and 76 Series GXL remains unavailable for the time being.
If you have not owned a diesel vehicle with AdBlue before, it is worth understanding what it actually is, since you will now be topping it up occasionally like any other vehicle fluid.
AdBlue is a clear, non-toxic fluid made mostly of water and urea. It is stored in its own 20-litre tank, separate from the diesel fuel tank, and is not something you mix with your fuel or add manually unless your dashboard tells you a top-up is due.
Here is how it works. As exhaust gases leave the engine, a small amount of AdBlue is injected into the exhaust stream. This takes place as part of what is called a selective catalytic reduction process, which is simply the technical name for a chemical reaction that happens inside the exhaust system. That reaction converts nitrogen oxide (NOx), a harmful pollutant found in diesel exhaust, into nitrogen and water vapour instead, both of which are already naturally present in the air we breathe.
The reason it has been added now is Euro VI, the emissions standard the LandCruiser 70 Series needs to comply with. AdBlue is the mechanism that allows a traditional, heavy-duty diesel engine like the 70 Series' 2.8-litre turbo-diesel to meet that standard without changing how the engine itself performs day to day.
Refuelling locations differ slightly by body style, so you know where to look when a top-up is due. On the 76 Series, 78 Series, and 79 Series double cab-chassis, the AdBlue port sits above the front left fender with a lockable key lid. Single cab-chassis grades have the filling port on the left side of the vehicle, between the cab and rear wheels.
The LandCruiser 70 Series has earned its reputation the hard way, on farms, on job sites, and
on roads that do not always stay put. For our Perth Hills customers running orchards,
properties, or trade vehicles that need to work every single day, the 70 Series remains one of
the few vehicles built specifically for that job. The order books reopening means that
reputation can keep being put to work.
