Want To Escape the Winter Weather?

Want To Escape the Winter Weather?

Winter is now upon us and as most West Aussies know, we don’t really handle the dropping temperatures well.

So, what’s the best way to cope? Head up north, of course!

Whilst Perth freezes in what feels like subarctic temperatures, the northern parts of WA are enjoying nice balmy high 20s to 30s temperatures, making it an excellent location for a Winter escape. So, if you’re looking to get away this Winter, here are our recommendations for the best locations to explore.

Exmouth

A tried and tested location, you cannot go past this untouched slice of paradise. Pack your snorkelling gear and get ready to explore Australia’s Longest Fringing Reef – Ningaloo. March – August is Whale Shark season, so don’t miss the opportunity of a lifetime to dive with the world’s biggest fish. From camping and caravanning to resorts and holiday parks, Exmouth has a variety of accommodation options to suit all tastes. Speaking of tastes, don’t forget to try out Whalebone Brewing Company or Planet Burgers to refuel after a day of snorkelling the reef.

Karijini National Park

Looking to head further inland? Karijini National Park might be the place for you! Accessible from Tom Price, Karratha or Newman, Karijini National Park is nature’s playground, formed over billions of years. It is chock full of spectacular geological formations, just waiting for you to explore. Hike to some of the breathtaking natural pools and waterfalls, discover the mighty gorges, winding waterways and rocky tunnels. Camping overnight at the park will allow you to make the most of your time there, with camping available at Dales Gorge and the privately owned Karijini Eco Retreat. Bookings are essential at both locations.

Broome

Broome, the place where rich pindan dirt meets tranquil blue waters. Be amazed by the vibrant colours of the Broome landscape. Drive onto the iconic Cable Beach and watch as the sun goes down. Stop in at Matsos for brilliant food and a refreshing Ginger Beer. And take a tour out to Broome’s ‘big ticket’ experience, the Horizontal Waterfalls. This bucket list experience will take you through what David Attenborough describes as “Australia’s most unusual natural wonder”. From resorts and B&Bs to caravan parks, there is an abundance of accommodation options in Broome.

El Questro

With magnificent mountains, thermal springs, plunging gorges, waterfalls and mud flats, El Questro offers the full gamut of Kimberley landscape across the property’s 700,000 acres. Experience the natural wonder of the property’s various waterfalls, hike to ancient gorges, or relax by swimming holes and thermal springs. Fish the day away at unique fishing spots or take in the full expanse of the region from majestic lookouts. From the El Questro homestead to camping and tented cabins, there are various accommodation options that each allow you to fully appreciate the beauty of this untouched landscape.

Escape the rain and explore the world class experiences that our state has to offer. Whether you fly up and hire a car (preferably a trusty Toyota) or take the time to road-trip up our spectacular coast, the perfect Winter getaway is within reach!
